THE GOOSE IS cooked, the bellies are stuffed and the presents are opened.
But for many of us Christmas has just begun and there are a whole host of events, gigs, plays, and once-yearly visits to relatives to keep everyone going.
From a disco tribute act in Dublin to a 10k run in Athenry, there are still plenty of things to do between now and the end of the year. Here are just a few from around the country.
Dublin
Plenty to do in Dublin over the festive period to keep everyone busy.
Kicking off today is the first day of the Christmas Racing Festival at Leopardstown Racecourse.
If you like getting all dolled up in your finest formal wear and hitting the racecourse in freezing temperatures, then this is the event for you!
The festival will run for four days. Advance ticket prices are €25 for an adult online (€20 for an OAP or student at the gate).
If you find yourself more of the musical variety, then Big The Musical at the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre is the event for you.
The classic Tom Hanks movie is retold here in spectacular Broadway Musical form – definitely one to bring the kids along to.
Or if you prefer your music a bit more funky, check out disco tribute band Le Freak Wednesday night (28 December) at District 8. Expect all the hits from the disco archives with a full eight-piece band. Not to be missed!
Galway
Perhaps you’ve overdone it on Christmas pudding and need to get away from the chestnuts roasting on the open fire and out into some fresh air.
Well then the Fields of Athenry 10k race is the thing for you.
Now into its 15th year, the race is a mainstay of the festive calendar for running enthusiasts across the country, with over 1,000 finishers last year.
Or if you prefer participating in sport as a spectator, Connacht and Munster rugby teams face off in the Guinness Pro 12 on New Year’s Eve at the Sportsgrounds.
Kildare
If comedy is your entertainment of choice then a good way to spend tomorrow night will be in the company of Neil Delamere, for his show Learning to Handstand at the Moat Theatre at Naas.
Also in Nass, the Irish folk/ traditional music supergroup A Stór Mo Chroí will bring an evening of top class music and song to St David’s Church on Thursday night (29 December).
Cork
And last but not least what Christmas season event guide extraordinaire would be complete without annual pantomime.
This year at the Cork Opera House Cinderella is hoping to trade in her broom and wicked sisters for some glass slippers.
Plenty to do over the Christmas season to cater for all tastes. Or you could always just stay indoors, watch Die Hard 2 on repeat and tuck into teh Christmas selection box!
